A Scalable Pipeline for a Growing Studio

Visualisation One is known for delivering high-end, photorealistic architectural visualisations and animations. With a team of over 30 artists, the studio required a pipeline that could scale efficiently without placing additional strain on IT resources or senior staff.

Prior to adopting Pulze, the team relied on 3ds Max Scene States and Backburner. While functional, these tools offered limited control and flexibility, particularly when it came to standardising workflows and onboarding new artists.

As both project complexity and team size increased, it became clear that a more robust and adaptable solution was needed.

“As the scale of our projects and team grew, we needed a solution that was more reliable and customisable, for both the studio and individual artists.”

A Structured Rollout Strategy

Rather than implementing a full-scale transition overnight, Visualisation One took a phased approach. A small pilot group of artists tested the tools, identified issues, and collaborated closely with Pulze to refine the setup.

Once the foundation was established, the solution was rolled out across the studio. The initial test group then served as internal experts, supporting wider adoption and ensuring a smooth transition.

“Once the fundamentals are in place, each artist can adapt the tools to suit their own workflow.”

Transforming Render Submission Efficiency

Previously, submitting renders to Backburner was a significant bottleneck. Sending 50 renders could take between 5–10 minutes per render, resulting in hours of lost production time for each update cycle.

With Scene Manager and RenderFlow in place, the process has been streamlined dramatically. Once configured, the same batch of 50 renders can now be submitted in just 5–10 minutes total.

“What used to take hours now takes minutes. That’s a massive shift in efficiency for the team.”

Streamlined Scene Management and Greater Control

Scene Manager has fundamentally changed how projects are structured. The need for multiple render scenes has been virtually eliminated, allowing artists to manage dozens of outputs within a single file.

This not only reduces file clutter but also improves consistency and control across deliverables. The integrated VFB module enables artists to apply uniform adjustments across multiple images with ease.

“We no longer need separate scenes for different outputs. Artists can manage dozens of images within a single file without losing control.”

Maximising Hardware Utilisation with Automated Rendering

Visualisation One leverages its 40+ workstations and render nodes as a unified render farm outside of working hours. RenderFlow’s automatic node mode switching enables machines to seamlessly transition from workstation use during the day to render nodes overnight and on weekends.

This automation eliminates the need for manual setup while ensuring continuous production, effectively turning idle hardware into a 24/7 rendering resource.

“Automatic node switching means our render capacity is never limited. We’re always making full use of our hardware.”

Enhancing Creativity Across the Pipeline with Project Dream

Project Dream is integrated at multiple stages of production. During concept development, it generates tailored reference imagery. In the design phase, it allows artists to explore variations, such as lighting, without re-rendering. In post-production, it enhances final outputs.

Pulze’s Creative Upscaler and Character Enhancer further elevate results by increasing image fidelity and improving the realism of 3D characters with photorealistic detail.

“Artists can take an image from concept to final output using just Photoshop and Project Dream.”

Conclusion

By implementing Scene Manager, RenderFlow, and Project Dream, Visualisation One has built a scalable, efficient production pipeline that supports both creative flexibility and operational performance.

From dramatically reduced render submission times to fully automated render farm utilisation, the studio is now equipped to handle growing demands without compromising on quality or efficiency.
